The mission of Spokane Hearing Oral Program of Excellence (HOPE) is to teach and support children from birth to age 5 who are deaf or hard of hearing so they can listen, speak, learn and thrive. We do this by optimizing the acquisition of listening, learning, and speaking skills in children who are deaf or have hearing loss and providing a supportive environment for their families with the ultimate purpose to prepare the students for a seamless transition into the student’s mainstream educational setting in their neighborhood schools.
HOPE’s educational programs are the vision of professionals and families of children with hearing loss. At the heart of this vision is the belief that children with hearing loss should have the opportunity to maximize their listening and spoken language skills in order that they may transition into their neighborhood school, interact with normal hearing peers, and require little or no special services.
HOPE’s preschool follows a developmentally appropriate, language-enriched curriculum that is child-centered and theme-based. We provide activities for families to promote parent involvement and carryover of language skills at home.
